In December 2010, CDF provided $11.2 million in New Markets Tax Credit financing to Radio Flyer, Inc., a manufacturer of children’s toys and the world’s largest manufacturer of wagons. This financial assistance helped Radio Flyer opt to remain in, expand, and modernize its 100+ year old legacy headquarters on W. Grand Avenue on the Northwest side of Chicago.
NMTC financing funded the renovation of 68,000 square feet of former production and warehousing space into office and research and development/prototype production space. In addition, Radio Flyer constructed a one acre outdoor “Playlab” for product testing. The project achieved LEED Platinum certification and supports over 60 full-time equivalent positions.
The renovation was completed in November 2011.
